2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup pecans
1 ? teaspoon vanilla

mix sugar, soda and buttermilk together, cook to a soft boil
add pecans and boil a little longer, remove from fire
add vanilla and butter, cream the mixture
drop by spoonfuls onto oiled paper
let cool
