Ice Box Cookies

Kathy: “I remember granny making these often, and I remember them being very good.
Granny usually kept some of the dough in the freezer.”

Cream together:
1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar

Add to creamed mixtre:
2 eggs
5 teaspoons vanilla (yes, 5)
Mix well

Sift together
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cream of tartar

½ cup chopped nuts

Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture and mix well.
Add nuts with the last of the flour mixture
Mix well

Roll into 2” tube and roll up in a sheet of wax paper
Store in the refrigerator until firm
Cut in 1/8” slices or ½” slices and quarter each slice

Bake @ 400F for 10 to 12 minutes
