Cream together:
½ cup shortening
½ cup butter
1 ½ cup sugar

Add:
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

mix well

Sift together:
2 ¾ cups flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt

add in thirds to creamed mixture and mix well after each addition.. mix well..

roll into small balls and put on greased cookie sheet, mash down lightly

bake @ 350 for 10 to 12 minutes
